Quick Tips for First Timers
If this is your first multi-day hike, you’re in good hands. The Scenic Rim Trail is fully guided and designed to support you — so you can focus on enjoying the experience, not the logistics. These quick tips will help you feel confident and prepared from day one.
Training & Preparation: Start your training around 12 weeks before your walk, see our preparation page for more recommendations.
The Experience: You’ll share an immersive nature experience with passionate guides and fellow hikers. Together you’ll find your rhythm as a group — and each night, relax in comfort with great food and beautiful accommodation.
Pack Light: The lighter your pack, the easier each step will feel. Porterage is included for 2-day walks or available as an add-on for others — a great way to ease into multi-day hiking without carrying all your gear.
Footwear: Comfortable, well-worn hiking boots or shoes with good grip are essential. Make sure they’re tested before your trip to avoid blisters. Old hiking shoes that haven’t been worn will likely detach from the sole of the shoe so make sure they have been worn recently & regularly.
Poles: Hiking poles make a big difference for balance and stability — you can borrow a pair if you don’t have your own.
Water: You’ll need 2.5L water capacity & 3L in warmer months. A hydration bladder makes it easy to drink on the go & we recommend using it beforehand, so it’s set up correctly.
Comfort on Trail: We provide a lightweight seat pad for breaks — the perfect way to rest and take in the view.
Toileting: There is a toilet at the start of the trail but otherwise it is bush toileting, which you’ll get used to in no time. If you need the toilet kit, we have one handy with everything you need. Staying hydrated is critical for your safety so embrace the bush loo and drink enough water.
Food & Snacks: You’ll be very well fed, so no need to pack extra snacks unless you have personal favourites.
Dry Bags: Bring a dry bag for your day pack — essential for keeping gear dry in any weather.
First Aid: Our guides carry a comprehensive first aid kit, but it’s smart to bring a few basics like Panadol, Nurofen, bandaids and Hydralite (especially in warmer months).
What to Expect: Weather can shift quickly, and you may meet a leech or two — all part of the adventure! Your guides are there every step of the way to ensure you’re safe, supported, and having fun.
