The Scenic Rim region, located just 90 minutes from Brisbane in South East Queensland, is a mountainous subtropical wilderness flaunting awe-inspiring views at every turn. Named after the magnificent shield volcano whose eroded remnants form the region’s rugged peaks, this stunning landscape stretches along the Great Dividing Range and through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest, showcasing Queensland’s diverse and fascinating native fauna and flora. With ancient rainforests, spectacular vistas, and exceptional accommodations, the Scenic Rim is a true natural treasure.
Scenic Rim
The Traditional Owners of the Scenic Rim Regional Council Area are the Mununjali, Yugambeh and Ugarapul. We pay our respects to their elders past and present and emerging.
In 2008 three different shires were brought together to create the Scenic Rim Regional Council encompassing 4,243 km2 with a growing population of 43,000 people.

Biodiversity
The Scenic Rim Trail traverses through Main Range National Park, a 30,170-hectare area roughly a quarter the size of Brisbane, and according to the local council, is home to one-fifth of Australia’s plant species.
The region’s diverse topography, altitude, orientation, and soil give rise to a rich array of plant communities, from subtropical and cool temperate rainforests to sclerophyll forests, montane heath, and rock pavement vegetation.
